The Meath Chronicle reports this week on the Revenue visit to over 70 business premises in Oldcastle in a one day blitz.
They viewed the visit as so successful that they plan to visit another town within the next month
While a majority of the business premises were found to be tax compliant, there were some that had major issues and prosecutions may follow.
The Revenue investigation teams methods have become more sophisticated and they have wide reaching powers.
Mr Faughan who is the District Manager of the Meath Revenue said “We have trained personnel who can ‘interrogate’ cash registers and analyse tills and software and we can recognise when sales are being zapped out of the system or where sales aren’t being recorded.” “They can get information from the till that may not be recorded in the books,” he warned.
He urges individuals who are not tax compliant to come forward and make a voluntary disclosure. Those who do will receive lighter penalties than those who are caught when the Revenue come calling.
Individuals who wish to make a voluntary disclosure should contact their professional adviser’s as soon as possible for assistance.
